BROOKLYN, MI, August 10, 2010 /Museums PR News/ -- The Walker Tavern Wheels, a vintage team from the Irish Hills, will play in the World Tournament of Historic Baseball Tournament at Greenfield Village in Dearborn on August 14-15, 2010. The Wheels first game is against Greenfield Village's Nationals on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in Walnut Grove #2.

The Eighth Annual Tournament of Historic Baseball at Greenfield Village has become a tradition to mark the original tournament in 1867, when the Detroit area hosted 24 teams from the United States and Canada. Greenfield Village is part of The Henry Ford at 20900 Oakwood Blvd. in Dearborn, Michigan. Visitors and media will need to contact The Henry Ford about admission and parking for the event.

This year, the all-weekend tournament will include more than a dozen vintage teams from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. The teams play each other according to a tournament schedule, and the two surviving teams play each other in the championship game on Sunday, August 15 at 2:30 p.m. in Walnut Grove #1.

Going into the tournament, the Walker Tavern Wheels have a season record of 12 wins and 3 losses. Two of the team's wins are tournament championships, including winner of the Gatling Gun Shootout (Northville, MI) and co-winner of the Silas K. Pierce Cup (Grand Rapids, MI).

The 2010 Walker Tavern Wheels players include Jake "Ghost" Bosse, Nate "Bullet" Brown, Tim "Buckshot" Brown, Nate "Possum" Drake, Tom "Uncle" Drake, Jeff "The General" Lee, Ray "Rainman" Reetz, Serge "Fencepost" Rigel, Carl "Doc" Szumlanski, Jake "The Snake" Szumlanski, Jim "Crazy Legs" Terwilliger, Brian "Waterlogged" Thomas, Matt "Skippy" Thomas, and Joe "Cuppa Joe" Tomassi.
The Wheels' uniforms - gray and green with a distinctive 'W' emblem -- are custom-made by Joyce Drake a community seamstress who is skilled in 1800s era clothing design.
Vintage baseball is not only a competitive game but a tribute to the sport, similar to an American Civil War reenactment. This version of the sport is considered a true gentlemen's game without swearing, sliding or spitting. The game is played without any sort of gloves.

The Wheels' home base is in the Irish Hills at the Walker Tavern. Sponsors for the Wheels include The Friends of Walker Tavern and local area merchants.
