New start for museum trade fair MUTEC in Leipzig parallel to denkmal
MUTEC - International Trade Fair for Museum Technology is being added to the Leipzig calendar of trade fair events in 2010.
MUNICH, GERMANY, May 13, 2009 /Museums PR News/ -- It will be held next year parallel to denkmal, the European Trade Fair for Conservation, Restoration and Old Building Renovation which is scheduled from 18 to 20 November. This has now been agreed by the Leipziger Messe GmbH, the denkmal organisers, and Albrecht Gesellschaft für Fachausstellungen und Kongresse mbH from Munich as the organiser of the MUTEC.
"Museums and historical monuments are the guardians of our past and reflect our contemporary culture. It is the intention of both events to show cultural tradition as a living legacy", says Wolfgang Marzin, CEO at Leipziger Messe GmbH. "MUTEC and denkmal complement one another in the best possible way in terms of the sections on display and crossovers in visitor target groups such as restorers and museum experts."
Angelika Albrecht, managing director of the fair and exhibition organisers of the same name: "Stability in visitor numbers attending German museums in recent years makes it obvious: art, cultural assets and heritage attract maximum attention. Together with denkmal, the MUTEC will show how material evidence of people and their environment is collected, researched, looked after and made known."
It is true: the Germans love their museums, as shown by the number of annual visits to museums which in the last ten years have always held up at more than 100 million. Up to 2007, the year of the most recent survey carried out by the Berlin Institut für Museumsforschung (Institute of Museum Research), the figure rose to around 110 million (based on a survey of 6,197 museums which qualify as being under academic and scientific management). "A good reason therefore to continue in future to invest in the preservation of cultural assets and museums", explains Angelika Albrecht. By comparison: in Germany, six times as many people go to museums as to football matches. During the 2007/2008 season, 17.4 million people attended games in the German 1st and 2nd football league stadiums (Source: Bundesliga Report 2009).
