Michael H. Lord Gallery Presents Carlo D'Alessio April 3-19, 2009

Michael H. Lord Gallery continues its inaugural season with a show of the extraordinary art of Carlo D'Alessio. The exhibition will be on view from April 3 through April 19, with a reception for the artist on Saturday, April 4, 6 - 9 pm, at the new Michael H. Lord Gallery in Palm Springs.

PALM SPRINGS, CA, March 26, 2009 /Museums PR News/ -- D'Alessio paints with a distinctive technique that creates a stunning visual impact. By layering acrylic paint and varnish, layer built upon layer, he achieves a brilliant three-
dimensional effect that mimics changes in natural light. Over the course of his thirty- year career as a visual artist, D'Alessio has perfected his understanding of perspective and shadow, further enhancing the illusion of his paintings.

With a characteristic style and a broad range of subjects, D'Alessio's meticulous painting
is hyperrealistic, but his frequent use of unexpected juxtaposition and contrast is
surrealistic. Sometimes mistaken for some form of photographic process, this work
possesses a vitality that can only be achieved by a maestro painter.

Born in the Bronx in 1954, D'Alessio's artistic journey began at an early age when he
was accepted into the famed High School of Music and Art in New York City. He went
on to graduate from Fordham University, studied at New York's School of Visual Arts,
and attended the renowned Art Students League. This show will unveil new paintings
and works on paper by D'Alessio, now a Palm Springs-based artist.

The Michael H. Lord Gallery, first established in 1978, announces its new location in the
Palm Springs Design District at 1090 North Palm Canyon Drive, an architecturally-
significant historic building built in 1929 as the garage for the swank El Mirador Hotel.
In the 1980's, it was renovated as the Elaine Horwitch Gallery, and now it has again been
remodeled as a 6,000 square foot art gallery. Business hours are Monday through
Saturday, 10-6; Sunday, 12-5.

With an emphasis on American and European contemporary art, the gallery represents
Nicholas Africano, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Carlo D'Alessio, Jan Groover,
Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Mapplethorpe, Joan Miro, Robert Rauschenberg,
Roger Selden, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol. The original Michael H. Lord Gallery in
Milwaukee presented over 300 landmark shows.

Gallery owner Michael Lord played a leading role in the revitalization of downtown
Milwaukee through his involvement in community art projects which ultimately drew the
support of corporate sponsorship to further aid the arts. Now a resident of the desert, he
is actively organizing art initiatives including an alliance with other members in the
Palm Springs Art Dealers Association.
